fence repair: should you diy or call a professional?

Take a look at your damaged fence.  Here are typical steps involved in fence repairs:

  1. Identify the damage: Inspect your fence and determine the extent of the damage. Look for broken or damaged boards, posts, rails, or hardware.
  2. Remove the damaged parts: Using a hammer or pry bar, remove the damaged parts of the fence. If the damage is severe, you may need to remove an entire section of the fence.
  3. Prepare the area: Once the damaged parts are removed, clean the area around the repair site to ensure proper adhesion of any new parts or hardware.
  4. Replace broken parts: Replace any broken or damaged parts of the fence with new ones. If you're replacing a post, make sure it's the same size and depth as the original post. If you're replacing boards or rails, make sure they're the same size and style as the existing ones.
  5. Secure the new parts: Use screws or nails to secure the new parts of the fence in place. Make sure they're flush with the surrounding fence.
  6. Stabilize the fence: If the damage was severe, you may need to stabilize the fence with additional support. You can use braces, stakes, or concrete to provide additional support to the fence.
  7. Finish the repair: Once the new parts are in place and the fence is stabilized, finish the repair by painting or staining the new parts to match the existing fence.

If any of the above steps seems beyond your range of capabilities, feel free to consult with Markham Fence, top fencing contractors in Markham and surrounding areas.  We can do a thorough assessment to see if a fence repair is sufficient, or if the structural integrity is compromised, we may advice a full fence replacement.  Give us a call to find out more information.
