We're proud to be serving a city as diverse as Markham with a population of well over 300,000 residents. We live in a climate where the weather can change literally from one minute to the next. In Markham and surrounding GTA, the weather can go from a low of -20 degrees or colder in the middle of bitter winter to a high of 30+ degrees in the sweltering heat of the summer.
Sprinkle that with varying types and amounts of precipitation, plus windstorms and you're going to need a fence that can hold up to Canada's weather polarity. For example, if you're looking for a sturdy wood fence, choosing the correct wood species for not only the fence panels, but also the posts will ensure you will have a long-lasting enclosure that can withstand the elements.

At Markham Fence, we strive on developing a great relationship with our clients, but also with our neighbouring contractors. We've partnered up with related-niche companies outside of our city, including our fencing contractors Bunbury and fence company Lake Charles friends.
If you're in Markham or surrounding areas such as Richmond Hill, Aurora, Stouffville, Vaughan, Newmarket, Toronto, Scarborough and the like, and are searching for "fencing companies near me", please give us a call to discuss your fencing and deck build needs. We look forward to working with you.
Here's what some past customers have to say about our work:

We had a cedar fence installed by Markham Fence and we don't regret it at all - the finish and workmanship is bar none and we're super thrilled with the results.

what type of wood fence lasts the longest?
Out of the popular ones in Ontario, cedar fencing is extremely durable, lasting two to three decades with proper maintenance as it is strong and has natural rot resistance. Pressure-treated pine fencing is also a popular option but not as long-lasting; however, it is still a great choice for most residential fencing and provides good value.
what is the most low maintenance fence?
Vinyl fencing is a clear winner here as it requires very little maintenance beyond a quick wash with a hose or wet cloth. It does not warp, shrink or rot, so it can withstand all types of precipitation. Composite fencing has a very similar low maintenance profile and should also be considered.
do i need a permit to put a fence or deck around my yard?
With the exception of pool fencing, you may not need a permit for a typical fence installation. However, certain height and measurement requirements must be abided by. If not, you may need to apply for a fence exemption if your desired fencing doesn't fully meet the fence bylaws in Markham.
If you are planning on having a deck built that's adjacent or attached to any building or structure, you will need to a building permit before proceeding, according to the Building Code Act. The City of Markham does not, however, enforce a permit requirement for an uncovered deck that is 600mm (1’ 11”) or less above the adjacent pre-construction ground-level at all locations around its perimeter.

Does a gate add value to a property?
This broad answer to this broad question is YES, a gate generally does add value to a property, just as the addition of a fence or deck would add value. The proportional value increase depends on a few factors including: i) type - a wrought iron or sturdy metal fence in a gated community would add significantly more value than say a chain link fence gate, ii) design - a poorly planned gate installation or one that does not complement the existing property and neighbourhood's aesthetics can actually DECREASE the property value, iii) function - if the gate's main purpose is to add additional security, then this goes beyond monetary value, it adds peace of mind.
Can you build a fence on the property line?
Common sense dictates that if you are planning on building a fence on a boundary line shared with a neighbour, you should probably have a frank discussion with them. Fortunately, this way of thinking is supported by the Line Fences Act in Ontario (and enforced in all municipalities including Markham), which allows property owners to resolve common grievances regarding installing a shared fence.
How do you decide what type of fence is needed?
Well it depends on a few factors such as appearance and function. For example, you likely won’t be using the same materials for commercial security fencing and a residential privacy fence. A wood privacy fence used as a security fence will just invite intruders to break in who will see the lack of strength in the enclosure as an easy target. Conversely, a heavy duty metal security fence and gate installation used as a privacy fence in a typical suburban home would just be overkill, not to mention an eyesore that sticks out amongst neighbouring houses.
If all the fencing and deck options are making your head swim, no need to fret. As we show you the options, we will help guide you if needed (and help prevent analysis paralysis), and advise you what the best option(s) would be based on the environment, functional needs, appearance and features of the material. And once we narrow things down, we will tailor it even more. Our philosophy is install a fence or deck for someone the way we would want someone to construct for us.

why should we choose markham fence as our fence installer?
Our deck and fence installers have been carefully screened for the following:
- Experience: sure, we understand that every worker has to start somewhere, but if you think about the analogy of going to the hospital to get heart surgery, do you really want an intern to be operating on you? Likely not. So how does the intern get the necessary experience? Well, they are definitely supervised by a head surgeon, and if they perform a procedure, they will likely start off small and work their way up. So there is nothing wrong to have an apprentice assist in a job, so long as there is proper supervision. In our particular case, all of our Markham Fence deck and fence builders have years of experience under their belts, and we keep each other accountable on every single job, from our professionalism to the quality of our workmanship.
- Integrity: frankly speaking, it’s not so hard for an unqualified worker to put up a fence or deck that initially seems acceptable to the customer, but then for it to fall apart a short few months later. We pride ourselves in the relationships we develop with our clients, because we know that a "fence company near me" performing a shoddy job will not be doing the clients or themselves a favour. We rely on word of mouth referrals and clients who are so happy with our service that we become the automatic go-to fence and deck company in Markham they instantly choose. So we view each job not as a singular job that we finish and leave forever, but as a start of a blossoming relationship between our fence installers and our client. That requires integrity in the form of ensuring every job is done meticulously and that if there are any concerns, that they be immediately addressed. That is our guarantee.
- Value: as tempting as it may be for home and business owners to get several quotes and go with the cheapest option, this may not be the wisest choice. Although we offer reasonable and relatively affordable fencing for the quality of our work, although we may not offer the cheapest quote, we are confident when we say we are amongst the best value. What’s the difference between the lowest price and the best value? Where do we even begin? The way we measure our value is in the longevity of our products and services. We use the highest quality materials, whether it’s wood, PVC, composite, metal or chain link fencing. We match the high quality and durable fencing and decking materials with our skilled craftsmanship. We install things carefully and meticulously to ensure the product will last many years without needing an immediate fence repair or replacement. So the reduced fence replacement or repair schedule will save you money in the long run. There’s also an unspoken value in our dedication to customer service. As cliched or classic as the saying goes, we are not happy unless you are. And we mean that. Going back to our relationship-building philosophy, we mean it when we say we want our customers to be pleased with our job, not only in the present, but in the potential future as well.
what month is best to install a fence in ontario?
In Ontario, the best months to install a fence are typically during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. These months offer more moderate temperatures and less extreme weather conditions, which can make the fence installation process smoother and more comfortable for both the workers and homeowners. Additionally, installing a fence during these times can help ensure that the ground is not frozen or excessively wet, which can affect the stability of the fence posts.
